Should I Keep My Personal and Professional Identities Completely Separate Online

I struggled with this topic when i was first introduced to Social Media.  I think part of it for me was because for many years we as professionals were supposed to maintain that 'professional image' and not let on to our clients and customers that we had 'private' stuff going on in our lives.  After much review, chit chat with other social media marketing guru's and some soul searching i came across some advice that works for me, "if you don't want something to be on the internet about you then don't do it".

Doing business with others in the world has resulted in the fact that people want to do business with people like themselves, people they like and understand, people they know and people they trust.  With that, i have opted to allow people to get to know who i am so that they can learn to trust me.  I've always given my all, done the best that i could do, been totally open and honest and been courteous to others, but still, i understand and accept the fact that not everyone will like me and that's ok:)
